5 Ways I Make Money as a Travel Photographer

Turning photography into a full-time career isn’t easy, but it’s absolutely possible with the right strategy. Over the years, I’ve built a sustainable income by diversifying my revenue streams, allowing me to continue travelling and creating. Here are the five main ways I make money as a photographer.

1. YouTube & Social Media

Sharing my journey on YouTube and social media not only allows me to connect with like-minded photographers, but it also generates income. Through YouTube AdSense and sponsorships, I get paid for the content I create. Brands often reach out for collaborations, and building an engaged audience has opened many doors.

2. Affiliate Marketing

I recommend the gear, software, and travel essentials I use, and when someone makes a purchase through my affiliate links, I earn a commission. This includes platforms like Amazon, Moment, and even photography-related subscriptions like cloud storage and editing tools.

3. Digital Products

Selling digital assets, like Lightroom presets and LUTs, is a great way to generate passive income. Many photographers want high-quality edits without spending hours tweaking their photos, and presets provide an easy solution. I also plan to expand into other resources like eBooks and guides.

4. Photography Courses & Mentoring

I run a 90-day course designed to help photographers go full-time by teaching them how to build a personal brand, secure brand deals, and monetise their skills. In addition to structured courses, I also offer one-on-one mentoring to help photographers fast-track their success.

5. Brand Partnerships & Sponsorships

Working with brands that align with my values is another key income stream. Whether it’s testing out new gear, creating sponsored content, or featuring brands in my videos, these collaborations allow me to monetise my expertise while providing value to my audience.

Final Thoughts

The key to making a living as a photographer is having multiple income streams that work together. Some bring in consistent revenue, while others fluctuate, but together they create a sustainable career. If you’re looking to do the same, focus on building your audience, refining your skills, and offering value—whether through content, products, or education.
